Coronavirus epidemic – keeping us safer

There is a lot of information going around about the Covid-19 virus and some of it is fake information. It so happens that my background is in public health and for many years before I retired I was Professor of Primary and Community Care at Sheffield . If I can assist in providing reliable information then I will be only to pleased to help. You can contact me through Loversall Parish Council email (loversallcouncil@gmail.com)

Whilst we have not yet seen many cases of Covid-19 in Doncaster, we are likely to do so in the coming weeks and months. It might still seem a little unreal to us at the moment but there is a grim reality to face – even at this very early stage, some London hospitals are overwhelmed by people needing to be put on ventilators.
To reiterate Government advice, those over 70 and those of any age with underlying medical conditions, need to stay at home. For many, the exception will have to be to do essential shopping unless we have someone to do it for us. If we have to shop for ourselves then supermarkets are offering special times for older people and we should take advantage of this (in our two nearest large stores Tesco:Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning between 9-10am. Morrisons: 9-10am Monday to Saturday).  Even if we are lucky enough to have a relative or neighbour to shop for us it may be that,  as the epidemic takes off in Doncaster,  the people we rely on to do our shopping have to self isolate and can no longer help. It would be wise to have a back up plan if this happens.

If there is anyone reading this who is not in the vulnerable category and is prepared to help with shopping,  please let us know at loversallcouncil@gmail.com  If requested we can then put people in touch with each other.

Keep yourself safe.
